Louis Vuitton Revives Its Iconic Noughties Murakami Collection

It is nearly two decades since the renowned artist-designer collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami, a collection that blended the Japanese artist’s expressive and playful motifs with Louis Vuitton’s signature monogram branding.

In the latest news that will certainly bring joy to fashion collectors, the two are once again bound to team up for 2025, with the French fashion house and artist partnering on an extensive re-edition of the original collection.

The collection is expected to bring back early 21st century pop references into the spotlight, featuring Murakami’s colorful view on the world. The highly popular contemporary artist is widely known for blending Japanese art, sci-fi, anime and whimsical kawaii character, bring them to life by merging with modern day tropes.

Alternative designs in the collaboration will also extend across Louis Vuitton’s range of small leather goods, accessories, travel luggage, and shoes, with the option of designs featuring on a black or white background.

It is anticipated that the revitalized collection will launch in two parts, with the first chapter available to shop form 1st January 2025. Zendaya has already given her seal of approval for the collection, featuring as a face of the accompanying campaign. As for the second chapter of the collaboration, it will be made public in March, with Murakami’s seasonally apt Cherry Blossom pattern serving as an anchor to the collection.

The Monogram Multicolor appears on a white background for City Bags like the Dauphine Soft, Speedy 25, Alma BB, small leather goods, belts, sunglasses, and an exceptional Malle Wardrobe featuring 33 Speedy bags. On a black background, the motif adorns pieces such as the OnTheGo and Speed 30 Soft bags, Art of Travel luggage, bucket hats, footwear, and silk carres.

Lovers of Murakami’s Superflat Panda design will also find the whimsical character animated on pieces including the Zippy Wallet, Alma BB bag, and Keepall 45. Louis Vuitton’s perfume has also received a touch of Murakami’s magic, with the Superflat Garden and Superflat Panda art featuring on two of its fragrance bottles.
