Louis Vuitton Partners with Ecole du Louvre

Louis Vuitton is taking its love for art and culture to a whole new level by becoming a patron of the prestigious Ecole du Louvre, with a series of grants unraveled Wednesday. The luxury brand is funding a series of scholarships and grants to support students at the renowned institution.

Situated within the Aile de Flore at the Louvre Place, the Ecole du Louvre is a top-tier public institution under France’s Ministry of Culture. The institution prioritizes art history, culture, and teaching techniques for the preservation and promotion of heritage.

Its strategic location allows for unique proximity and a practical approach to working with historical artworks for museum professionals. Not to mention, the location carries a special significance for Louis Vuitton.

The courtyard is a regular location for the fashion shows of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s flagship house, with women’s artistic director Nicola Ghesquiere often staging the brand’s shows within the palace’s courtyard each season. Men’s artistic director Pharrel Williams followed suit, opening men’s fashion week in January with a splashy, star-studded show there.

Louis Vuitton becomes the first brand to serve as a patron of the school by backing scholarships for eight students over a three-year period. Initiatives in the scholarship include research grants for two doctoral students whose work explores themes connected to Louis Vuitton’s rich history- from travel and exploration to decorative arts and craftsmanship.

In addition to this, six undergraduate and master’s students from diverse backgrounds will receive living grants to help with their studies. It is worth mentioning that students attend classes held in the Louvre Palace and in all the museums in and around Paris.

The Louver Museum is increasingly becoming intertwined with fashion, playing host to its first exhibition of the sort, which opened on Jan. 24. Titled “Louvre Couture: Art and Fashion- Statement Pieces,” the exhibition is dedicated to exploring the relationship between fashion and its own collections.

The exhibit draws on the links between historical objects from the Louvre’s collections, including art, ceramics, tapestries, jewelry, bronzes, stained glass, silverware, and more. This is alongside 65 contemporary fashion ensembles and 35 accessories installed throughout. The exhibit will be celebrated with a gala dinner on March 4 during Paris Fashion Week.

The newfound partnership between Louis Vuitton and Ecole du Louvre will certainly help ensure that students are able to study its heritage with sheer ease.
