After a six-year hiatus, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show returned on October 15. Former Angels like Tyra Banks and Alessandra Ambrosio joined new faces like Paloma Elsesser, Taylor Hill, and Devyn Garcia for this year’s event. The show will be available on Prime Video and the brand’s YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok channels. It will also feature performances by Cher and K-pop stars Tyla and Lisa of Blackpink.
Gigi Hadid and Ashley Graham are two of the most popular models to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which premiered Tuesday night. The pair is both curve models, meaning they wear plus sizes on the runway. The show returns with a focus on inclusivity when the body positivity movement is at a crossroads. Several curvy women have been frustrated with Victoria’s Secret for failing to include more size-inclusive designs.
While the brand is trying to do better, it hasn’t been successful. For years, it has faced accusations of not being body-positive, and despite announcing plans to include more curvy models, it still seems to only have a few in its lineup. As a result, some curve model fans have felt like the brand has regressed.
This year, the VS show featured a segment of curvy models, including Gigi and Bella Hadid. The sisters walked the runway together for the first time since 2015. They both wore a set of pink silk wings that got bigger and more elaborate as they went down the runway. The pair was paired with a pink and white outfit.
The show featured several other curve model stunners. One of them was a 24-year-old from South Africa named Tyla. She wore a set of feathered wings similar to those on Gigi’s shoulders. The South African model also wore a gold outfit with sparkly thigh-high boots.
Other curvy models who made an appearance included 19-year-old Doutzen Kroes from the Netherlands and 20-year-old Jasmine Tookes from Australia. They both wore a set of light pink sexy wings so big they almost covered the models’ heads.
The lingerie brand announced this week that it would add more models in the “curve” category to its lineup. The move was praised by many of the brand’s fans and critics alike, but it still hasn’t solved the main problem: it has too few risqué outfits in its inventory for the number of models it currently employs.
