South Korean K-pop group Stray Kids marked a momentous occasion this past weekend, headlining the prestigious British Summer Time (BST) Hyde Park Festival. The eight-member group, formed in 2018 through JYP Entertainment’s reality show, expressed their delight, calling it a “career highlight.”
Stray Kids, known for their genre-bending sound and electrifying energy, were filled with anticipation for their UK festival debut. Hits like “God’s Menu,” “S-Class,” and “Maniac” have solidified their place as global stars. This London performance marked a significant milestone in their career, and the excitement was palpable.
“It’s a huge festival and a huge space,” Han, one of the members, shared before the show. “It’ll be exciting to see how much the energy we bring to it will change that.” Their curiosity translated into a phenomenal performance. Stray Kids delivered a high-octane set list lasting a full hour and forty minutes, captivating a crowd of thousands.
The group’s success extends far beyond captivating live audiences. Stray Kids were recognized by Time Magazine as “Next Generation Leaders,” and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) placed them third on their top ten list of global recording artists last year. Their 2023 Korean-language studio album, “5-Star,” dominated the charts, becoming the second biggest-selling album globally.
Stray Kids, despite their accolades and chart-topping success, remain humble. Their red-carpet appearance at the MET Gala in custom Tommy Hilfiger suits in May showcased their undeniable star power. Still, their focus remains on their music and fans, affectionately known as STAYs.
“Lots of STAYs and a lot of people are giving us a lot of attention,” said Bang Chan, the group’s leader. “So I don’t think we should sit still and do nothing about it. That’s why all eight of us are working hard in our parts.” This unwavering dedication to their craft translates into their music, and their upcoming comeback is a testament to that.
“ATE,” their new EP, which drops on July 19th, is a statement. According to Felix, another member, the title represents the eight members who have “eaten up” their comeback, promising fans an experience unlike any other. With their vibrant personalities, undeniable talent, and unwavering commitment to their fans, Stray Kids are poised to take the world by storm again with “ATE.”
