Pixar Animation Studios have enchanted movie lovers globally once more with the unveiling of their first teaser trailer for their much-awaited original film titled Gatto. It is an animated feature set in the splendid and romantic canal-riddled city of Venice, Italy. This motion picture promises to be a perfect mix of whimsy, self-reflection, and artistic appeal that at the same time reawakens the old feelings and introduces us to the new ones through visual means.
The newly released teaser shows that the epicenter of this movie will be a lively feline underworld where cats deal with the superstitious streets and waterways of the legendary Italian city. The protagonist of the piece is Nero, a belligerent black cat brought to life by actor Mark Ruffalo through his voice. The plot gets intrigue when Nero, after being invisible in this otherworldly unknown for a long time, starts to doubt the things that have been guiding him for all his numerous reincarnations. Alongside it are the motifs of forgiveness, character, and what it is to truly live that are being revealed.
Mark Ruffalo is not only a professional actor able to do major transformations as we can see in such films like Spotlight, Poor Things but also in his role as Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has become an icon and a symbol of power. For the role of Nero, he manages to produce a character that can be understood and sympathized with easily. That also accounts for the reason why he was enlisted to do the voice of the movie character. His involvement gives this project some muscle not only in a star sense but also emotionally. Besides Ruffalo, we have Laurence Fishburne who will play the role of Rocco – a cat mob boss with a tough character, much like those who have been in the past in human gang stories. It is hinted that this addition makes the movie to have tension and rivalry elements that the hidden feline world of Venice will see and that there will be drama.
Most technically advanced features of Gatto are the animation ones, mostly that the film is hand-painted. It was done by Enrico Casarosa, the director of Luca, and shows that Pixar can experiment with traditional media. In effect, a new look has been achieved that is somewhat reminiscent of storybook illustrations. The romantic charm and the enigmatic aura of the place Venice are exquisitely captured in the few glimpses we got from the teaser that is decorated with a golden hour and many hues that are both fresh and tangible.
Those who are familiar with Casarosa’s work will know that he has time after time proven himself to be a master of warm-hearted and deeply human stories that are set in Italy and follow a young protagonist figuring out the world (or even his own life). Also, his love for a specific place which he almost uses as a character in the story is very apparent in his works. Gatto Definitely will continue with the line of work Casarosa did for Luca but it might also be more twisted, adventurous and can show a mixture of a happy time with a little – “what is the meaning of it all” touch that we are quite familiar with the movie.
The long-awaited movie will be in cinemas from March 5, 2027, and that is a date to circle on the calendars for lovers of Pixar movies who can get warmed up with anticipation while the studio is busy giving us wonderful stories one after the other. This year that is already ambitious on the animation front, Gatto also delivers not only a talking animal storymusic to many people’s earsbut rather a beautifully poetic visual journey of life’s twists and turns, depicted against one of the most enchanting cities in the world.
Social media has already become overwhelmed with the posts expressing diverse opinions on the released teaser. People are admiring the new hand-painted style of tweening, Ruffalo’s rough, vocal appeal, and the cat mafia gang one is a concept that some wouldn’t be able to resist. A lot of people are making parallels with previously published animal-centric stories as well as, Really Pixar is always able to add to their emotional content in a completely contemporary way.
