Kraven The Hunter Trailer Out

Spider-Man has always had a lot of bad guys after him, but one of the most vicious ones of all is Kraven, the hunter. The big game hunter is often portrayed as a member of the Sinister Six in comics, but he’s also occasionally shown as a villain on his own. This new movie gives him a chance to shine as just that, and the film might be bloody fun.

The makers of the Aaron Taylor Johnson starrer ‘Kraven The Hunter’ have released the movie’s first official trailer. It’s the most recent entry in Sony Pictures’ universe of Marvel characters, which includes the Spidey spinoffs Venom and Morbius and the impending Madame Web. The new film focuses on the origin story of this particular villain.

According to the movie’s official synopsis, “Kraven has been tracking his prey for centuries – but now, after a lifetime of hunting the world’s most dangerous game, it appears as if he’s finally caught his ultimate quarry.” The trailer, which you can see above, teases Kraven’s descent into madness. During the movie, the hunter becomes obsessed with killing animals and is led to murder his wife and son. He then sets out to get revenge on the family he blames for his daughter’s death.

Kraven’s journey to revenge also leads him to hunt another iconic Spider-Man villain, Rhino, played by Alessandro Nivola in the trailer. The clip concludes with a shot of a potion that might give Kraven the powers of the Rhino. This may be a nod to the fact that the movie will have a more comics-accurate version of Kraven than the one seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home and Venom.

J.C. Chandor directs the film and stars Taylor Johnson alongside Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, and Russell Crowe. More set photos have been released, showing Taylor-Johnson sporting a beard and rocking some pretty severe leather bracers. The movie has a release date of October 6 and is already being touted as a horror-action flick.

This is the first time a Marvel movie has been rated R by the MPAA, so expect some violence. The trailer shows at least a dozen henchmen brutally dispatched with throats slit, noses bitten off, and torsos impaled on bear traps. The movie will be a treat for fans of both the Spider-Man movies and the general genre. It’s a welcome change of pace from the PG-13 purgatory that many Marvel films find themselves in these days.
