Strictly Come Dancing sensation Amy Dowden was hospitalized after collapsing backstage during Saturday night’s main show. An ambulance was called to Elstree Studios in Borehamwood on Saturday when Dowden began feeling unwell.
Amy Dowden was in ‘huge distress’ in the moments before she reportedly collapsed backstage over the weekend. The professional dancer, 34, and JLS star JB Gill performed a foxtrot to Toploader’s Dancing in The Moonlight and impressed the judges enough to get a respectable score of 32.
But moments after concluding their live performance, Amy started to feel ill and an ambulance was called ‘as a precaution.’ A representative of Amy Dowden said she was ‘feeling much better’ and thanked fans for their messages of concern.
The dancing star was unable to film for the results show, which aired on Sunday night. Hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman said to viewers: “Before we get started, Amy isn’t able to be with us for tonight’s show.”
It is yet to be confirmed if she may miss any further rehearsals or recordings. Amy was initially diagnosed with stage three breast cancer aged 32 in May 2023, after finding a lump in her breast the day before she went on her honeymoon.
Amy opened up about her ordeal with breast cancer in a BBC documentary, Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me, which was broadcast in September. “It was an exciting new chapter in my life, but finding a lump on my breast changed my life,” she said when announcing the documentary.
Fans were delighted when Amy made her Strictly comeback this year, after having to miss the previous series while seeking treatment for breast cancer. The pro dancer received a special welcome during her return, as the new series kicked off with a group dance in her honor.
Speaking about getting back on the dancefloor, Amy confirmed she was “so excited for every element.” She continued: “ I am so grateful to get this opportunity, especially as it’s such a special year for this legendary show. It feels like it’s my first year again.”
In the event Amy leaves the show to focus on her health, which professional dancer would be most likely to replace her? For this year’s series, dancer Lauren Oakley is the only female Strictly star not to be assigned a partner. She joined the BBC competition in 2022, the same year as Carlos Gu, Vito Coppola, and Michelle Tsiakkas.
